CHRISTMAS DEVOTIONAL
Posted by Dave Clayton on 12/21/2010
Since many in our church family will be scattered all of the world visiting family on December 26th, we decided to mix things up a bit this Sunday. We have provided something we can all do together, no matter where you might find yourself this Sunday. Below we have provided some things that will assist you as you guide your friends and family in a time of worship and celebration because of Jesus’ arrival.
You can use some of this, or all of this. You can use it in a home or a coffee shop, with a small group or a large group. As believers in Christ, we make up the church, most weeks we get to gather as a large body, this week we will gather in smaller groups all over the world, as we celebrate Jesus together. Be creative, have fun, but most importantly … worship Jesus.
WATCH : The Digital Nativity
SING : Here are a few classic Christmas Hymns for you and your family.
READ : Luke 1:26-38 & Luke 2
SHARE : In a time of communion together. You can find our recipe for communion bread here.
REFLECT : Spend some time just reflecting on what the Birth of Jesus means for your life today. Take as long as you need.
PRAY : Spend some time thanking God for the gift of his Son, and for loving us enough to humbly come to earth for us.

SILENT NIGHT
Silent night, holy night
All is calm, all is bright
Round yon Virgin Mother and Child
Holy Infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Silent night, holy night!
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born
Silent night, holy night
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth ”
Shepherds quake at the sight
Glories stream from heaven afar
Heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!
Christ, the Saviour is born
Christ, the Saviour is born
Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from Thy holy face
With the dawn of redeeming grace
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth
Jesus, Lord, at Thy birth ”
HOLY NIGHT
O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Spirit felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night , O night divine!
O COME O COME IMMANUEL
O come, O come, Emmanuel
And ransom captive Israel
That mourns in lonely exile here
Until the Son of God appear
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.
O come, Thou Key of David, come,
And open wide our heavenly home;
Make safe the way that leads on high,
And close the path to misery.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.
I Love Our Church
Posted by Dave Clayton on 12/20/2010
Yesterday was an incredible day at Ethos Church. I left last night feeling overwhelmed with joy thinking about how I watched our church family bless two church planters from Vancouver, serve our homeless friends, open up homes for those hurting during the holidays, and just the general sense in which we cared for one another. It was an incredible day, and a wonderful way to end the best year we have had in the short history of our church family.
It made me think about this past year. Here are some of my favorite moments from 2010:
+ An impromptu offering in January that provided food for 1,000 families in East Africa
+ The first weekend in early February where more than 100 people publicly confessed and repented of sin
+ The thousands of dollars raised, and the trips many of our people took to serve the people of Haiti
+ Watching the way our church celebrated Popcorn’s Life
+ Watching as you stepped up to serve during the May Flood
+ The way hundreds of you stepped up to serve on one of our volunteer teams
+ The way you prayed for, pursued, invited, and baptized your friends that didn’t know Jesus
+ The way you grew in your love for one another.
+ The number of leaders that stepped up to start new House Churches (we went from 19 house churches to nearly 50)
+ Starting a 3rd Worship Gathering, and watching it fill to capacity in only a few short weeks
+ Trunk or Treat at East Park
+ Watching the way you guys served during 40 Days in the City
+ Watching the way you gave financially (week in and week out)
+ Celebrating our 2 year anniversary by building 4 wells through Charity Water
+ Helping support new church plants in Los Angeles, Portland, Montana, Vancouver, Nashville, and more.
+ The way you consistently helped the poorest of the poor in our city with your love, finances, and time
+ Watching more than a dozen people in our church bring a stranger in off the street to live in their home
+ Watching as we supported our family members that did mission work in China, India, Honduras, Spain, Italy, Mexico, California, Africa, Haiti, and Scotland
+ Watching families in our church give away 3 cars to bless someone in need
+ Watching more than 150 of you commit to be on a mission by making Ethos your church family
+ Watching you throw baby showers for single moms that were down on their luck
+ and the list could go on and on.
I have never been so proud to be a part of this church. Although the last two years have been absolutely incredible, I have never been more excited about where we are going. 2011 is going to be a year in which I firmly believe we will see God change lives, our city, our world, and us individually as he continues to work through Ethos.
I love you guys. Thank you for joining in on this journey. Enjoy the Holidays. Enjoy time with Family. Rest up. And let’s get’s 2011 started in a big way. I have some huge news I can’t wait to share at the first of the year. I can’t wait to see you guys January 2nd.
Love,
Dave
