The Holy Spirit

LISTEN to The Holy Spirit

There have been many times in which I’ve found myself envious of Jesus’ twelve apostles. I’ve tried to imagine how wonderful it would be to see Jesus face to face, to hear his voice across the campfire as we ate dinner, to listen to him laugh, to ask him questions when I felt uncertain.

I’ve often imagined how much easier it would be for me to defeat sin and temptation if God in the Flesh was visibly present with me everyday — almost like a Divine Accountability Partner. But then several years ago, I read a passage out of John’s Gospel that I had read many times yet failed to grasp. Jesus seems to disagree with my assessment of the situation. His words to his disciples at first glance seem confusing and perplexing …

“But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.”

I remember reading that and thinking to myself, “Surely Jesus can’t be serious. How is it to my benefit for Jesus to return to Heaven while leaving us here?”

If you have been in or around church for any amount of time you have heard his name, if you’ve listened closely to the vows recited at nearly every wedding you’ve heard his name, if you read the New Testament everything good that happens in the early church is accredited to him …. yet so few people today take hold of the ONE that Jesus has sent.

Join us in September and October as we discuss and discover the third person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit.
