Easter : Prayer and Fasting
Posted by Dave Clayton on 04/19/2011
Our goal at Ethos Church is not simply to build a great church, but to help make Nashville a great city.
Several years ago, God really began to speak to Sydney and me through a passage of scripture in Jeremiah 29. We stumbled across this passage during a long season of prayer and fasting as we were wrestling with whether or not we should start a new church in downtown Nashville. The Word of God seemed to jump off the pages as we read :
“This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon: Build houses and settle down, plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters, find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so that they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there; do not decrease. Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for the city …” – Jeremiah 29:4-7
As we approach Easter Sunday, we are going to spend time as a church family crying out to God for the good of our city. We are going to pray that God blesses our city leaders, our coworkers, our neighbors, and our friends. We are going to pray and fast for our friends that know Jesus and for our friends that do not.
THE PRACTICALS.
On Thursday and Friday of this week, April 21 and 22, men and women from our church will be fasting and praying for our city. You can Pray and Fast on one day or both days. It is completely up to you.
As you pray and fast, here are some specific things and people you can pray for:
1) Pray for our city leaders.
2) Pray for your co-workers and neighbors.
3) Pray for your friends who know Jesus.
4) Pray for your friends that do not yet know Jesus.
5) Pray that God will continue to reveal himself in every aspect of our city.
Praise God : Update on Everley

*UPDATE The test results have come back clear! Everley’s tumor was not malignant. Praise God for the miracles he continues to work.
By now, many of you have heard that Everley Burton’s surgery yesterday was completely successful. The surgery that was supposed to last 8 hours, lasted less than 2. God gave the surgeons steady hands and clear minds as they removed a very complicated tumor.
They were able to remove 100% of the tumor, and in the process only had to remove a small portion of her pancreas and spleen (neither are vital organs). She is now recovering and the doctors are very optimistic as they move forward. The family is overwhelmed by the covering of prayer they have received in the last two days. Thank you for standing in the gap with them.
The days ahead are going to be critical as she recovers from such a major surgery. Please continue to lift Everley and her family up in prayer.
If you would like to write a note to encourage them their address is :
Sloan and Ginny Burton

God is good — not because he heals, but simply because He is good and His ways are always best. We are immensely grateful though that he has healed Everly and given us more time with this sweet little baby. Keep praying for her continued recovery. It is great to worship a God big enough to do the impossible. Check back here for updates in the days to come.
Love you guys. – Dave
Prayers for Baby Everley
Posted by Dave Clayton on 03/22/2011
Thank you so much to all of you that have been on your knees praying over the last couple of days for Sloan and Ginny Burton and their baby daughter Everley. Last week, doctors had to make a difficult decision when they realized Everley (still 6 weeks from being born) had a massive tumor. Sloan and Ginny, along with their doctors decided to deliver Everley nearly 6 weeks early so they could perform a much needed operation to remove the tumor. As you can imagine this has been a really challenging time for the entire family.
As of 7:00 am this morning, they took Everley in to perform the surgery. I just got done talking to the family, and here are several very specific prayer requests.
1) Pray for complete healing and recovery.
2) Pray that there will not be much bleeding. Babies do not have much blood, so any amount of blood loss is quite serious at her age.
3) Pray for the Doctors. Their names are : Dr. Chung, Dr. Rauth, Dr. Morrow, Dr. Neblett, Dr. Morgan, and Dr. Martin.
4) Pray that they are able to remove the entire tumor.
I’ll post an update here as soon as we have it.
